Meet Our Judges
Tui De Roy
Tui is a world-renowned wildlife photographer, writer, naturalist, tour leader, and conservationist. A resident of Galápagos since the age of two, she is intimately familiar with its ecosystems and wildlife. She is the author of twenty-one nature books that have appeared in 40 countries, including A Lifetime in Galápagos, Galápagos: Islands Born of Fire, and Penguins: The Ultimate Guide. Through her photos, she conveys nature in its most breathtaking and beautiful moments.
Ben Hicks
Ben is a south-Florida based photographer who aspires to advance the appreciation for nature and raise environmental awareness by depicting the natural world in an endearing and relevant manner that all individuals can understand and connect with. Ben is particularly focused on using his photography to communicate the importance of sea turtle conservation, as these magnificent creatures are one of the most important indicators of the health of the world’s marine ecosystems.
Rules
Overview:
All photos must be original work, taken by the entrants. No third party may own or control any materials the photo contains, and the photo must not infringe upon the trademark, copyright, moral rights, intellectual rights, or rights of privacy of any entity or person.
What to Enter:
Images should depict sea turtles in their natural habitat, displaying normal behaviors. Due to liability and confidentially reasons, images should not include people. Photographers may submit only one image. If multiple submissions are made by the same entrant, only the first image will be reviewed. In order to be displayed in our online gallery without being stretched or distorted, photographs must be submitted in .jpeg, .jpg, .png, or .tiff format. High-quality scans of non-digital photographs are acceptable. Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible. We suggest a resolution of 1,000-3,000 pixels. Winners may be required to supply a higher resolution image upon judges requests. The maximum file size is 100MB. You will only be able to access the entry form once. Additional entry forms may not by accommodated.
Ethics:
The welfare of sea turtles and their environment must be placed ahead of the desire to capture a photograph. Upon entering the contest, entrants certify that no people, wildlife or the environment were harmed in creating a photograph. No baiting of wildlife is permitted. Photos should be taken at a minimum distance of 20 feet from the sea turtle. Any photo deemed by our judges to have been taken too close to the animal will be disqualified.
Entry deadline:
The contest begins on April 17, 2024. All entries must be received through the entry link below by 11:59 PM on May 17, 2024.
Conditions of Entry:
Entries will not be accepted unless submitted via the official contest channel. Entries not submitted through the proper channel will be deleted. Submissions will not be accepted once the deadline lapses (May 17, 2024 11:59 PM).
Photographers must self select whether they are a professional or novice photographer. Professional photographers are defined as those who have a degree in photography or a related field and those who earn 50-100% of their income from photography. SEE Turtles reserves the right to verify this information.
By entering the contest, entrants agree that photos submitted can be used for advertising, programming, and social media purposes for Sea Turtle Week in perpetuity. You will retain your rights to your photograph and credit will be provided wherever we use your images.
Entries will be judged by the a panel of independent judges selected by SEE Turtles. All decisions are final. SEE Turtles reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to stated contest rules. Audience voting will begin in June once all entries have been reviewed and deemed eligible. Check back here for instructions on audience voting
Prizes must be collected by the winners and are nontransferable. Winners will be contacted via the email address provided during entry. If no response is received after seven business days, a new winner will be selected and the previous winner will forfeit all rights to the prize.
